Return to the Pilcomayo

Yann returned to familiar places in the Upper Pilcomayo in Paraguay in May and June to discuss recent changes in land use and livelihoods and explore new research directions. One of the things he did was ask questions about honey and beekeeping in the area, in preparation for future research. This led to some fascinating conversations about things like beekeeping as a development intervention (there have been many beekeeping projects in the area), the different types of honey and their connection to territory and seasonality, and trans-boundary trade networks. Yann also had the opportunity to spend some time in the field with collaborators Natalia Castelnuovo Biraben and Nicolas Richard, whose own fieldwork coincided with his visit to the area.
